{"id":350,"date":"2010-06-23T18:18:23","date_gmt":"2010-06-23T17:18:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/moyracaldecott.co.uk\/?p=350"},"modified":"2024-01-16T13:37:23","modified_gmt":"2024-01-16T13:37:23","slug":"20-april-2010","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/moyracaldecott.co.uk\/wdp\/20-april-2010\/","title":{"rendered":"20 April 2010"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I love my friend Anthea\u2019s paintings.<br \/>\nThree pictures,<br \/>\nillustrations of my two books<br \/>\nMyths of the Sacred Tree<br \/>\nand Crystal Legends.<br \/>\nI went to Santorini<br \/>\nwith her in 1990.<br \/>\nI climbed a volcano with her,<br \/>\nand watched the sunset<br \/>\nover the Aegean Sea ,<br \/>\nand walked through<br \/>\nan ancient Minoan town,<br \/>\nand brooded on whether<br \/>\nThera\u2019s volcano erupting<br \/>\nmade an end of the Minoan culture<br \/>\nin Crete .<\/p>\n<p>This week the Icelandic volcano<br \/>\nerupting<br \/>\nhas disrupted air travel in Europe .<br \/>\nBoth my sons,<br \/>\nJulian in Indonesia ,<br \/>\nStrat in America ,<br \/>\ncan\u2019t get back to their homes<br \/>\nin England .<\/p>\n<p>Not since Icarus fell from the sky<br \/>\nhas man been in so much trouble<br \/>\nflying.<br \/>\nWas it the volcanic ash cloud from Santorini<br \/>\nmade Icarus fall,<br \/>\nor coming too near the Sun<br \/>\nin pride?<br \/>\nAnd would the Icelandic volcano<br \/>\nmake an end of our civilisation,<br \/>\nbased on flying<br \/>\nand money,<br \/>\nas the Santorini volcano did the Minoans<br \/>\nin Crete?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I love my friend Anthea\u2019s paintings.
